Amber Alert, Barking Dog, and a Glock...

So here is a fun little story. Last night driving back from Cleveland (which is about an hour from my house) my clutch burns up in my car. It's a little before midnight, so by the time I get a tow, and get back home, it's well after 1am. By the time I fall asleep it's almost 3am.
I usually get up early to get to the shop, but I have the baking covered this morning, so I can get a little sleep and then come in and run the front of house at 10am till close. So I fall asleep...
This is where things get weird.
All the sudden, out of nowhere, I hear an alarm BLARING. Like, picture in the movies, when the hero is running out of the bad guys hideout, and the red lights are flashing and that siren is blaring... This is happening. Like right now. It takes me a second to even realize where I am. Turns out, I'm still in bed. So my heart starts to race, and I immediately jump out of bed to assess the situation. At this point my dog is going berserk too from this alarm that's going off. I scramble under the bed to start to get my Glock out, thinking that this is the security alarm in my house, and someone has broken in. In the few seconds it took to get to my gun, I remembered I don't even HAVE a security system in my house. Now I start putting one and one together, and begin to look for where this noise is coming from.
I look down, and it's my iPhone making all the noise. I look on the screen, it's a freaking AMBER ALERT for some mom and daughter in West Virginia, of all places. I finally start to calm down after I realize this was all some stupid alert on my phone.
Apparently on the new operating systems for iPhone and Android systems, there is this built in alarm notification for Amber Alerts, Emergencies, and Weather Events. Factory settings have it turned on. I very quickly learned how to turn it off.
The moral of the story... If it's the middle of the night, and you hear some alarm that sounds like your home is about to self destruct... don't fret, it's probably just your phone telling you about a missing teen two states away...

I know it was a scare for you...but I'm really glad to see they do such things. I assume you read the message and the details....It might be two states away, but the bad guy with the kid in danger may be heading your direction, so the alert goes out. Maybe you could just leave it off at night and turn it on through the day....the whole purpose is to save children, and if you disable it, you are one less person that might see something to help bring the child home. When your child is missing, every eye open counts.

While I do agree they are important to get out there... they don't need to be a freaking siren in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. I'm certainly not going to be looking for the guy at 4am!

LOL...That's why I said turn it off at night, so you won't get woke up to a siren. That had to be hard to get back to sleep after that kind of adrenaline rush.
On the up side...between the dog and you knowing to go for the gun, you know you are ready for that bad guy attack...consider it a good test drill, now you know exactly how you will react in a situation, and not just say what you have planned to do. Impressive....Bad guy better leave you alone for sure.
