ammonia in my RO water

Doing more research on water and water quality, I'm absolutely amazed that the corals I had made it that long. I'll be re-designing my whole RO/DI system and share with ya'll some of the things that I have learned, just in case some of you are running into problems with HIGH TDS in your tap water. Whew,... All I can say is... WOW. I feel like I would sell filters now. lol!

I'm making a new batch of water today, Seth. I observed the TDS coming from the membrane and after the DI real close this week. Within the first 30 seconds it shot up to 220 after the membrane then dropped to near 20 after a couple of minutes. So I flushed the membrane. Now it's running at 15. Still zero after the D.I. stage the entire time. The resin in the second DI container is just now starting to turn color. The first canister I can tell looks pretty spent already.

If would definitely recommend to anyone flushing the system for a good minute or two before making water for the tank unless all of your media is fresh. I just took the wast water and dumped it in the wife's mums outside.

Ok. Keep me posted. Id really like to know about how long your filters last before you have to replace. Seems like it might be coming up sooner than you originally thought, huh?

Well I pushed another 20 gallons through the unit today. TDS after the membrane stayed around 15-16 all afternoon. That's not too bad I guess considering our tap water is pushing nearly 600ppm. The pressure is still at 60psi and the sediment filter doesn't look too bad just yet. So there's still some life there. I figured the initial filling of the systems would burn through em a bit quicker. It probably would be time to replace the DI though if I were running a single stage.
