Well guess what I had in my new house. New Copper pipes. I nuked my system with a bunch of copper. Stuff looked really ill. I whipped out my tewst kits and everything looked good. Then on a whim decided to check for copper. Wholly mackeral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RO/dH2O for the rest of my life. I don't care what you say. I was even running charcoal at the time.

thank you for shareing your experience. What was your copper level? Did you run the water for a few minutes before adding to the tank? Did you allow the tank to run for 3-4 weeks with a good growth of algae? And finally did you do weekly water changes or just replace the water that evaporates?
Back in the 70's all plumbing was copper. Therefore the common practice was to allow the water to run for a few minutes to flush that out. Copper (and others) take prolonged contact with water in order to rise to dangerous level. A few seconds of running through a copper pipe should not be enough to cause problems.
