Ammonia showed up!

Well I checked my parameters today and I had ammonia showing up at about 4PPM. I believe I have found the culprit. Saw a piece of my cleaner shrimps tentacle floating around..... Problem is I cannot see anymore of him floating around so will my ammonia go up again if I could not find his dead carcass to get out of my tank? I did do a water change and my ammonia was zero when I left for work today.

It looks like you have had the tank up for about two months. What have you added? How long between introducing different fish. Inverts should not cause an ammonia spike. Too many fish at once can cause a spike.

Bought two Clownfish, Acan Coral, and Brain Coral. Waited two weeks and bought the Cleaner Shrimp and some Candy Cane Coral. I did buy 20 hermits and 5 snails also. Also have been doing weekly 5 Gallon water changes after the tank cycled.

Nothing out of the ordinary in the list and timeline. So probably just a little spike from the death of the shrimp.

If your worried about water spikes in the future, put macroalgae in your tank, its really helpful when spikes occur because it filters out the bad stuff and brings in clean water. Like a tree taking in Carbon Dioxide, and giving oxygen.

4 ppm is not a little spike, your kit is off, or you did the test wrong, at 4, not one thing would be living in the tank, and certainly not any corals...at 1 everything would be dead.
