Ammonia

I frequently get large shipments of fish and seahorses in during the warm summer months, as a result some livestock die in the holding tanks, driving up ammonia levels. Sometimes as high as .5. Does anyone know of a safe ammonia reducing product. I have ordered in some Kent Ammonia Detox, but is there anything better.

Hello and welcome to the reef forum!
I'm not sure about the effectiveness of the type products you are asking about. Hopefully somebody else can suggest usefull products.......maybe try to post the same question in the disease and treatment forum.......they are more informed on stuff like you are asking about. What i've been told, those ammonia detox and amquel products make the ammonia molecules big so the bacteria in the tank and on the live rock and process it better. They don't get rid of it or lower it. You'd have to do water changes for that.

you can use a product called AMMO LOCK 2, it works instantly in detoxifing ammonia, it converts toxic ammonia to a non-toxic form. then ur biological filter will comsume that non toxic ammonia. but tests would still show ammonia...(just to let u know). good luck....
