ammonia

I started my tank a week ago. I have a 29 gallon with 30 pounds of LR and 40 pounds of LS.
CPR2 bak pak
2 powerheads
I tested my ammonia for the last 3 days.
Sky high >6.2 mg/L
every day.
Should I expect this for this many days in a row?
Should I stop measuring it and not worry about it?
I suspect the latter, but need some reassurance.
Thanks.

Thanks,
So should we do a water change to get the ammonia down?
Or just wait it out. I am just worried about the stuff on the LR dying off from ammonia.

have you got a bio wheel filter?
if you have one from a nother thank, you can add that to your new tank it will work wonders.
it basically exposes the ammoia to air and speeds up the whole cycling process.
but it should NOT be a new wheel. should be a used one with lots of good dark bacteria growth on it.. they will do the work to reduce your ammonia change it to nitrites and then to nitrates..
then your need to do a water change to reduce your nitrates..

I wouldn't do a water change until the cycle is complete.
Everything seems fine so far - just ride it out.
