Amount of Inverts for a 55g tank

1)How many crabs should I have for a 55g tank? I hear that it is 1 for every two gallons, is this right?
2)I hear that snails are 1 for every gallon, is this right?
I have 3 Peppermint shrimp and one CBS. How many shrimp can I host in my tank?

We have a 55 gallon and no where near that many snails/crabs. We only have about 15 crabs and maybe 5 snails and honestly with our bio load / tank age I think its way too many. Plus I've heard its not always the best idea to mix the two as sometimes the crabs will make lunch of the snail if they need their shells.
I'd start with just a few if your tank is new, then add more as you go.

It all depends on your tank, and the bio load. If theres a lot of leftover food and crap on the bottom you need more crabs. And if you have an alge problem get more snails. just look at your tank and make an educated decision.
