amphipod mass death

I have a 12 gallon QT tank that I use to raise amphipods. I havent entered anything new into it for about three months. Two days ago, all of the adult 3/4 inch plus sized amphipods, about 100 or so, went to one corner in the chaeto algae. Today, they were all dead. However, all of the small amphipods, snails, cleaner shrimp and micro-stars are doing great. Anyone ever heard of this? Kinda sounds like fish that spawn and die.

i've heard that they spawn for a 21 day cycle..do they die after? what's there actual life span?

hmmmm...
1)Are you positive that they are molts?
2) How old is that batch?
