I have a sponge filter on the intake of my skimmer :p
BTW, wanted to add that even amphipods and copepods can be destructive if kept in a tank with no fish to feed on them. I have a coral-only tank, and until I got my psychedelic mandarin, the amphipods were so numerous that they started eating polyps and biting up my sea cucumber.

Yikes, I never planned on getting a dragonet, but this poor little scooter blenny was at this hole in the wall place in the backwoods part of town I visited a week ago, and I just had to try to save him. He was so thin and frantic in the little cube he was held in, but has since become more healthy looking and does eat the frozen foods at the same time. For some reason my pair of clowns even allow him to bunk up at night with them in their cave. I can't really get to the back two walls in my corner tank and he does a damn fine job of picking off the copepods that are going nuts back there.

Hey mud, I've noticed bunches of amphipods and copepods in my mostly coral tank as well. My stock list is as follows:
2- false percs
1- fire shrimp
1- lm blenny
hermits, and snails
Any of these help control the population?
thx, rev

Don't get me wrong...amphipods and copepods are good for your tank. I wouldn't go to any lengths to eliminate them at all unless you discover a problem directly linked to them.
The only reason I needed to get some of mine is that they were running out of detritus and becoming predatory.
ps- I'm pretty sure all fish help in controlling the pod population.

I was wondering what those things were in my tank. I found 2 of those Cirolanid Isopod. Have any of you found away to kill these guys? I did a search and found something called Clout. It's supposed to be a very strong and effective medication for parasitic and protozoan infestations. They say it treats Ich, Hydra, leeches, Planaria, Epistylis, Trichodina, Hexamita,Tetrahy-mena, body fungus, digenetic flukes, parasitic copepods, monogenetic flukes and anchor worms. What do you guy's think about it?

I wouldn't medicate my tank. I especially wouldn't medicate my tank with something made to kill pods, fungus, parasites and bacteria.... that's either 1. Some toxic stuff, or 2. a total bottle of wasted money.

How soon do you typically start to see the pods after you add some LR and LS? Supposedly the sand is full of critters according to the sellers website. Its been awhile since I set up my original tank and cant remember the time frame. :notsure:
