I need help!! Please anyone, I have had my 55 gallon salt water fish since january of 2010. This morning I woke up in distress as I went to do my early morning routine of turning on my tank lights and feeding my fish. All my fish were dead! I couldn't believe my eyes. I checked the temp, it was a little high of 86 degrees. I just did a water change yesterday and the salinity was 1.028. That is what my fish have been used to for 2 years. I don't have a clue on what killed them all at once. My hermit crabs are still alive and my carpet anemone is too. When i came home from work I noticed my anemone was dying as well. It is still alive but most of it is inside out. I have had the anemone for a week 1/2. I don't know if it has something to do with my anemone? Do you think it does?
These are the type of fish I have had for 2 years:
2 Percula clown fish, they are a mate.
2 damselfish
1- yellow tail damsel
1- california electric blue damsel
1- tomatoe anemonie fish
2 month old
1- lawnmower blenny
2 week old
bicolor Angel fish
Can anyone tell me what they think happened? I am really upset and I feel like not ever starting over again, especially if I don't know what killed all my fish:(

What temp is your tank normally at? Check your heater. Test your water parameters and post them up. Also, post a few pics of your tank.

First of all, welcome to the site.
Second.. temperature is WAY too high. High 80s seem bit high to me.
I'm so sorry to hear about this..

Hi Siptang!
I was thinking the SG at 1.028 was high, when the water needs top off it would climb higher...seawater is 1.026 The temp at 86 is actually a perfect temp for a Hippo tang, on my tangs behalf I kept my tank at 86 for 5 years, in the summer sometimes it went to 90 for a few days. I lost the tang last summer when my area lost power for 4 days because of a storm...now the tank sits at 80-82...and I have a generator now if it ever happens again.
His fish had both parameters for 2 years at least, so that isn't what killed everything.

Flower - you are probably right. Maybe salinity swing was too great for the anemone and it was spitting out things in the water? Just taking a wild guess here.

Interesting...he did say the anemone was new...... week 1/2 add to that, no pumps running....maybe.
