Anemone help

I was given an anemone and I don't know what to do with it. I acclimated it. Put it in the tank and It was blown all over by the power heads. I put him in a hole in some rocks and he moved to the sand bed but again power heads can't come on because they blow him and knock him into everything. What do I do? Just leave the power heads off until he finds someplace hes happy with?

There is something wrong with it, healthy anemones are sticky and attach easily to rocks or substrate. Try reducing the current and see what happens. Send pick or try to find out what type it is. The anemone should not be blowing around your tank.

bring it to your local fish store and give it to them and they can sell it to someone who understands their care.

ALL anemones move...they decide the happy place by the water current, so you can not turn off the power heads. They have no eyes, no brains...they are a mouth with an anus. They survive by what swims into them, the light they can absorb and the water current to bring tiny critters to them and wash away waste. They shrink into tiny little balls or droop when they release old water, and then they refill themselves. Remember..ALL anemones are potential fish eaters...they don't go hunting, they just use the opportunity to eat if a fish swims into them.
COVER
the power heads...sometimes it takes weeks for an anemone to settle down and stop moving. They may stay in one place for months and then go on the move again. However a moving anemone is not a happy anemone.
You have to leave it alone...handling it will make it behave the opposite of what you want, which is to settle down and dig in.
P.S.
Your tank should be at least 6 months mature before an anemone is introduced.

Actually blowing in the current is how anemones travel to find that happy place....there is nothing wrong with it. The problem is that it land up settling on a power head and get sucked up into it and die. So always cover them.

Anemone move by using what would be considered the foot. Anemones do not blow around in the ocean, they slowly crawl. An anemone blowing around in a tank is a bad sign. They make take some time to find their ideal spot but they get there by crawling. I have never had an anemone blow around my tank and if I saw one doing so at a LFS I sure would not buy it. Take the anemone back or try to put it in an area with less current. 10 to 1 it's dead in a week.

Are you sure the anemone's foot wasn't damaged when being moved from the previous tank to yours?

When you first introduce one to a tank some can take a little bit to attach, I would place a large net over it for an hour or so, make sure you do it on a rock then it will travel to its ideal location. this has proven to be effective several times in the past.

Although I agree with Mie, I think that there is an issue with your anemone.
That being said, COVER YOUR POWERHEADS! Anemones can take time to find their place. They normally do so my sliding along on their foot, not floating around the tank. Floating nems are not a good sign USUALLY. Good luck with it.
By the way, what type of anemone is it?

Sad to say if it hasn't footed by tomorrow its on its way out. I bought a long tentacle that never footed and it died. Funny thing is I bought a Sebae and it took right away. Still have it almost 6 months later. Just upgraded to T5HO and he moved away from the lights a little but seems to be very happy now.

Think about what will eventually happen here. You are going to turn on the powerheads.
IMO leave them on now, cover all the intakes with some netting, nylons etc. Then let the anemone find it's own space. It will. Maybe not where you want it to be but that doesn't matter.

Sorry for no reply. Im sick. Anyways, He attached to some rocks. Hes in really crappy spot to see but if hes happy thats all that matters. Ill take a picture later and post it. I turned the larger power heads on and hes fine where he is at still. I haven't covered them so when Im not able to supervise the tank I shut them off. (When Im feeling better I'll finish just this post is taking to much engery).
Night everyone.

Great he attached to a spot, that's a good sign. Even though you think it's crappy, its probably the spot the anemone needs or else he would not have picked it. Also anemones sometimes move to darker area's before splitting and a sudden change can induce splitting, it is natures way of self preservation. Who knows you could end up with two anemones, weirder things have happended.

Be ready for it to move again, possibly, when you turn the pumps back on. You will change the environment and it may not like where it is again and go wandering to find a better spot.

But at least it has attached itself. A Moving Anemone may not be happy but can still be healthy. As long as its attached I would say you are in good shape. I would worry only if it decides to defoot itself.

Glad to hear that it found a spot for now.
Now that it has settled...at least for now...I would suggest you identify what species you have as soon as possible.
You may also want to post in the anemone's forum, and seek some additional advice.
