My clowns took about 1 1/2 weeks to start hosting my green bubble tip. Some clowns never do host. Make sure the nem you get is big enough.

Different clowns like different anems and some anems like the condy do not allow themselves to be hosted and can eat your fish. Best thing is to find out if your clowns are wild or tank raised. If they are raised what type they are since many TR clowns don't know much about hosting and take special encouragement.

Garick, I love the first half of your post, but being a breeder of 8 types of clowns, and watching all of them host immediately, and also talking with a whole lot of other clownfish gurus, and and all of the other gurus wish we could put that old myth to rest. I /we have seen wild caughts take longer to accept a host than many TR(tank raised) clowns even if it is a natural host. It will sometimes be hit or miss, whether it be WC, or TR. Having their natural host will help, especially with WC (wild caught).

That's very true and I am simply a beginner in all oceanic settings and was relaying what I've read. I suppose the best thing to say should be "Your clown may or may not host an anemone. It may in fact decide it likes something else in your tank and completely ignore the anemone. There ARE considerations and observations that show however certain types of anemones and clowns being more compatible than others based on clown natural habitats and what anemones reside in its part of the ocean but you should ignore the condy completely due to its hungry and aggressive nature which normally results in it eating fish because some shops sell it to host clowns due to its inexpensive price.." So, research what your type of clown might prefer in its anemone type and try that, but don't be sad if your clown decides that it wants to host your power head and tries to feed it.
