I have seen them kept for over 2 years under PC if what he said was true.
the tentacles stay extended at all hours, unlike a bta which close up if i am not mistaken.
anyhow, its amazing and huge! over 18" when fully open. my clown is loving life!
The base is buried in the sand and the foot is attached to the glass, I can see it from underneath the tank.
When I placed it in the tank, the base appeared smooth, no ridges or markings of any sort.
I have had mine for 5 years.....It is a LTA, risky trying to keep one under anything other than MH. Because they like to be in the sand means they are in the deepest part of the tank. T5s may not penetrate deep enough to keep the animal happy long term...
I dont spot feed mine very often anymore, I do still swish some food into it when I feed the fish any types of meaty stuff like mysis shrimp, ect...I will spot feed it a couple or so krill about once a month. I only mentioned lighting because IMO, its more important than feeding them.....but feeding them is fine for growth....the one in the photos looks in good shape to me. seems to be more relaxed looking than mine and yours may be one of the purple morphed color, cant say for sure.....
Heres a shot of mine....under 250w MH.
Broward County...near Oakland Park. I took that pic through the side panel of the tank, its acually in the back left corner....It ended up they after H. Wilma and has stayed even sence...It decided to go for a walk after 10 days with no lights...haha
