...so my mom just called me and she was all upset. She said that her rittery anemone was stuck in the powerhead. she said that the foot was still attached to the glass and she turned the powerhead off. she said a lot of the tenticles are torn off but the base of it looks okay...do anemones bounce back from this? I also had an anemone get sucked into an powerhead but it was donzo...no bouncing back. so she doesn't know if it's going to live or not. but she said that her mandarin & her firefish were dead on the bottom as well. do anemone let off toxins when they die? do you think that's why these fish are dead as well? or is it just a coincidence?

Do a water test for ammonia. Sometimes the anemone can bounce back and sometimes not. You should always cover power heads when you keep anemones.

Hey I don't have an anemone yet but I was going to get one soon so what do you cover your power heads with??? Pantyhose or something

I use the black filter pads made for cascade canisters...I imagine any coarse filter pad will do. I cut them to size and sew them sort of...using clear fish line. I just thread it through the pad and tie it off.
A pantyhose is too tightly woven and will cog up too fast, restricting the flow of water from the power head.

I've never had this problem and don't want to!! I will be adding my first power heads tomorrow.
What about an old fish net? If it's not very fine it should not clog too fast.
just a thought. I'll let you know.

I lost a carpet that got sucked up all the way. I just lost another one a few months ago. I finally covered mine with fiberglass window screen. Wrapped it and tied it up with zip ties.

I don't recommend the fish netting. lol.
The best thing to use is the course filter padding that comes standard in pre-built sumps or in "mega flow overflow kits" Do like she said and just sew it on with some fishing line. Or you could rubberband it if aesthetics doesn't bother you.

this is why i have always steared cleared of Nems. the potential for huge tank losses if one dies and having to cover powerheads. not to mention they can wipe out reefs if they decide to move.
