Anybody hane an anemone in a reef tank? If so does it do a lot of damage to any of the corals when stung? What is the secret to keeping an anemone in a reef tank?
Thanks,
I know it's not recommended but I know some people have success with it.

i have a few in my tank, they dont move around to often, but when they do they didnt do any damage that i could tell to the other corals. the biggest problem i found is that they always end up somewhere you dont want them. right now my blue carpet made his home ontop of my powerhead at the top of the tank. i try to stay away from anything that gets up and moves anymore. goodluck

I have had mine in a reef tank for 2 years(and 3 years before) and it hasn't moved since he found the corner. Yes they will kill any coral that touches it. Mine constantly battles with my Xenia but since the Xenia grow fast I don;t care. I don't think there's a secret but they need lots of light and it doesn't hurt to feed them once in a while.

I had two sebae anenomes which then split into four...and if they weren't so nice looking, and my clarkii wasn't hosting them---they'd be GONE!!! My tank is only 29 gallons, and when they decide to move (and they are ALWAYS moving), it's like a wildfire. They kill everything in their path. But, like I said, they look great. I try and 'corral' them using branch coral.

I think they are Sebae anenome. I love them because their beautiful---they really adds alot of color and movement to the tank. I hate them because they won't stay put. About once a month, they decide that they want to be on the other side of the tank...and sting everything along the way. Then they move back to where they started from.
I got them (and everything in my tank) from a guy who was getting out of the hobby. He sold me everything he had for $40 (happiest day of my life!!!)

He held on to the spot that I exactly wanted him to stay at (I hope he stays). It took me about 10 minutes to get him to grab hold but he did and he's been there for the last 8 hrs. Hopefully he likes it there. Now I wonder how long it'll take before my black and white percs will host if ever.

My carpet is growing and spreading out and getting close to stuff but I have had him for 3 years and love it to much to get rid of it. And I have found that if you keep them fed thay will stay put . I think they move to search for a better supply of food or maybe current to supply food, or lighting needs.

What will the anemones sting? Just coral or other stuff like a clean up crew and other anemones? They sound tough to deal with.

Has anyone had one near a toadstool leather? My long tentical moved right next to my leather. It hasn't touched the leather but it's about 5" from it. Would it kill this and should I move my leather?

Ours only moved once so far, but its been under month since its addition. I think its happy where it is, the Clarkii sure likes it.

I have had this anemone for three months. It came on a piece of live rock and has stayed there, all it ever does is move from one side of the rock to the other. I can say this, when I first put it in the tank I only had pc lights and it didi not do well, once I switch over to 2 x 250 mh coralvue 10 k bulbs it has been doing great.
