anemone like clear tenacles

I have a lot of these creatures appearing on the rock. They seem to have a hard cone shaped body on the rock that they retreat to when distrurbed. It is maybe 1/8 to 1/4" in diameter and about the same height. The longest tenacles are now over 1 inch long and clear in color. Can anyone identify these from the description and let me know if they are good or bad?
Thanks, David

Kinda sound like aiptasia which is bad. If you disturb it, it "fly's" apart spreading spores all over the tank. There are several methods to get rid of it but I found IMHO a peppermint shrimp will help. I bought one and it ate 9 stalks in 1 night. Ha!

I had aiptasia once, but they were more of a brownish color and disappeared into a hole in the rock when disturbed. I used a hyperdermic needle with calcium chloride to get ride of them. These would be easy targets for they do hide as quickly and their home is obvious.

Are they in kinda like a crater on your LR? If so, i have the same thing. It's definately not aiptasia.

Sounds more like you might have one of the jewel anemones. Fairly harmless

Thank you for the picture. Mine do not have a body coming out of the crater on the rock, only tenacles which wave like threads. Can you tell me how to attach a picture to a reply and I will add one if I can. I tried several times this evening with no success. David

under the area that says "Submit Reply" "Preview Post" is an area called "Attach Files" Go to Manage attachments button. Click on browse and it should take you to your pictures on your computer, the pic will need to be sized no larger than 500x500, when you click on the pic you should then be able to press the upload button, then close this window button.
It should be that easy.

I have the samething on one of my rocks. One has two tenticles and the other I have seen only one. It seems to live inside a hole on the rock.

The ones that I have in my tank don't really have that long column stem either.
