Anemone Moving

I've been debating on getting an anemone but I've heard nothing but horror stories about anemone taking over a spot on top of a coral and killing it. Once an anemone plants his foot, will it still move later on? I mean, if I get an anemone now and corals after it's seated should it be ok?

depends on the nem. what kind are you looking at getting? what kind of lighting, etc do you have?

You will have to constantly monitor it. Remember, even though their foot stays planted, that doesn't mean they won't stretch over to some corals. My BTA hasn't moved in months, but it stretches clear accross the tank and started to sting some corals.
Anemones are not reef safe, and if you want to have an anemone and corals, the best thing would be to allow the anemone to get confortable and seated, then place corals. But remember that the anemone may move around later down the road.

So what goes on out in the wild with anemones and coral. Maybe a diver could help here. Do anemones control a certain area of the reef with little to no other coral int he local vicinity, or are there coral that live well with anemones?

Nothing is controlled in the wild... its the circle of life. They battle for territory as do certain corals that get too close to eachother. Either the anem moves on or stays and the fight continues. The issue with our systems is we spend $ on our coral so we dont want to see them get annihalated and secondly the toxins and chemicals that can be emitted from such a battle can harm your other inhabitants.

I hadn't decided on an anemone yet, I am still researching but I just got 2 175W MH's so that opened up my options. Sounds to me like it's too risky.

About a two months ago i purchased a mushroom rock that a sebae anemone was on. The sebea had a nice nook on the rock and stayed there the whole time my LFS QT the shrooms for me. The day i went to bring the shroom rock home the sebae did not want to release its home so my friend let me have it as is (anemone and all) for an extra five bucks. All was fine in my tank up until last week when for no good reason the sebae up and moved. It has know tromped on most of the corals and gotten stuck on the powerhead intake twice now, luckily with out much ill effects so far. Know i am not sure what to do with it. So yes i would recomend not adding anemones to reef tanks.
