hi i have had a bubble tip anemone and a maroon clown that has loved it for like 2 months. the anemone has lloked real healthy. anyway, the other day i wanted to top off the tank. i had a 5 gal poland spring bottle that was unused, and since i was getting a delivery the next day i thought that it would be good to use in the tank. almost as soon as i put in th ewater the anemone turned green and shrunk down really small. since then it opened up and now shrunk down again. i tested everythign and the only things that have changed are my PH dropped to 7.8, my nitrates went up to 40, and my calcium is at like 600. is there anything i should do to help the poor thing??

That was your big mistake, you shocked and stressed your Anemone maybe to the point of no return!, The poland spring water is full of disolved nutrients, that to us are good to the pallate but to your fish tank is full of nitrates, You need do do water changes to get your nitrates down to where they were or lower than before, by buying salt water made from RO/DI water or by making your own with ro/di water! AS far as anemone CARE at this point try posting and asking for thread in the CLOWNFISH/ANEMONE THREAD! and good luck!

Theres alot more in that water than just nitrates. 40 is not too high for anemones, but it could be the phosphates and other elements that you dont have tests for.
Do water changes with RO/DI water. The BTA is hardy, so it hopefully will ok.

Well it's quite obvious she made a mistake! You sound a little harsh. She didn't know, for whatever reason--and I don't care what the reason is--she is here asking questions and learning. Anyway, don't use that water anymore
The water change is a good idea, check the parameters and post them after the change. The next poster that stated the phosphates could also be high is probably right about that, too. The water change will help that number as well. Let us know how it goes. Could be a costly mistake, but hopefully it will bounce back. Spring water can be high in calcium so, that could be the reason for the high reading.
