anemone question

Yes they are to a degree. You need good flow, 5-6watts per gallon, and hand feeding 1-2 times a week, and even if you have all that...they can still die. Im guessing the pink tip hatian is condy? I am no expert on anemones but after I loss my ritteri even with perfect conditions I don't think I want another.....unless it is propgated from a fellow reefer.

I have had only one anemone die on me. I think it was sick from when i got it from the LFS. It started spitting up its insides....but other than that i have kept at least 2 or 3.

Why do you want an anemone? If you are looking to find a host for a clownfish, be careful. For one, condy's are not known to be great host anemone's. Secondly, there is no guarantee that any clown will take to any anemone. However there are certain species that are more "prone" to accepting certain anemone's.
I would go for a bubble tip as they are the most widely accepted by clowns, and are (if you can use this term for any anemone) the most hardy.

Anemone's need very good lighting, meaty foods, good current, and excellent water conditions.

I would get a bubble tip, since they are hardy, many clowns like them, and they do not have to be taken from the ocean. Many ones in captivity are sold after they split.

I agree bubble tips are an excellent choice. Condys move too much and end up knocking stuff over or stuck in your power head intake. Sebaes are fairly difficult to keep but do make good hosts for most clowns. My first bubble tip has survived when everything else was crashing. It recently got into fisticuffs w/ an new long tip anemone I had purchased and I learned the hard way that anemones will actually fight. The bubble tip lost and pieces of him that had been stung fell of all over the tank. I was told as long as the base was in tact that it would 90% likely survive. and even though he's gone from more tentacles than could be counted to about a dozen he looks better every day. Of course the long tip went back to the lfs.

condies r pretty easy to keep, as anemones go. all anemones are quite difficult to keep, need goood water, and meaty food hand fed to them. condies however, do not need much lite. i used to have a small one. i asked a guy at a fish store, not local one, a question about them and he sed very rudely that condies r basically useless and he called them trash to waste ur money on.........hmmmmm.........i still like them and ive seen really cool ones so go for it if u can feed it alot, give it good current, and hav very good water conditions.

How big do bubble tips get? I ask because I am thinking about converting a 10 gallon I have sitting around into a nano and possibly just having an anenome in there with a clown or two. Also, will anenomes get along with a clean up crew? And if I set up a nano with an anenome would 15 or so pounds of live rock and some live sand be enough filtration for it?

I'm not sure the max size, but most I've seen are no bigger than about 6" in dia. There won't be any problem w/ members of a cleanup crew and anemones. Assuming you mean shrimp, crabs, snails and such. Other anemones however or any stinging type of coral could be a problem in such a small environment. Also water quality is important for healthy anemones and if this is your first setup a 10 gallon could be very hard to maintain. If your h20 quality is right and you have moderate lighting and flow I don't see why you couldn't be successful though. Bubbles are really accepting of chunks of shrimp and other whole foods so they don't require as strong lighting as some other speices out there.
Also not many clowns will take a condy as a host though they are interesting and easy to maintain. I've had really good luck w/ the bubble tip, but my roomate has had equal sucess with a sebae also.

the lr and ls amounts would probably due. Just make sure there are holes or other dark spots for the bubble because they prefer their base in a dark space where they can reach out and extend toward the light.
