Anemone requirements

Whats the easiest anemone to care for? Is there anything that can survive ~30 Nitrates and 400 watts PC lighting in a 125?

My advise would be no.. none. And not because of the nitrates. Although some here will argue a BTA will be ok for your tank. I will disagree, for the fact that you will limit the anemone to the top portion of your tank. Will it stay there, will it move? There is no telling, but if it does, it will not stay healthy. The height of your tank is what needs to be addressed when looking at the lighting requirements for an anemone. And anything over 12" IMO is too deep for PC lights and an anemone. HTH good luck

+1.
your most likely need either Metal Halide, or vary good T5 lights. but metal halide would work best.

T5s would be sufficient for lighting - at least a 6 bar for a 125 - I use a 6bar on my 75.
The Nitrates on the other hand will give you just as much issue as light - well maybe not just as mch - anemones like pristine water conditions, nitrates starting at 30 ppm will only go up from there which could be very detrimental to a nem.

I dont want this to be the excuse for all who have high nitrates that is ok to get an anemone. But, I have had my trates as high as 60ppm in the past and my anemone has gone unaffected by it. Just sayin...I think species specific tolerances are key. BTA's and condy's for example are IMO very hardy and will tolerate swings in chemistry more so than other species. However I dont believe that its ok to have high levels of them I just never witnessed my anem affected by it when I did.

My Nitrates won't go higher then 30(or its unlikely) the tanks been established for awhile and thats a high water mark. If anything its been getting lower and lower as my chaeto ball has grown. I knew the lihgting was insufficient for deep in the tank, but I thought the Anemone would naturally stay near the top of the tank where the lighting was best. Maybe not I guess, but I'm not buying new lights at this point I'd rather just not get an anemone then spend that much on lights just for an anemone. :p
