Anemones and Coral

 There are so many anemones, which one would work with what coral? How would you keep them separate?

You can't, that is the potential "problem" with anemones. They can get up an move. Corals can be placed certain distances apart to keep them from waging war against each other, but an anemone can up and move right through, stinging things in its path. Some reef keepers don't put anemones in their reef tanks, and others risk the chance. Basically, that is what it comes down to, IMO. Do you want to take the chance.

:notsure: Well, I would like to keep the clown fish happy and healthy and everything I've read so far suggests that an anemone would be great. But if I do go this route, I would change my fish only into live and would possibly consider coral. Would the bulb anemone be a good choice?

Clownfish don't need anemones to be happy. In fact, tank raised clowfish sometimes don't host at all. Many people on this board have gotten their clownfish to host in corals, such as hairy mushrooms and toadstool leathers. I've seen them host in bubble corals before! If you want to get something for your clown, plan ahead, and do a lot of research. Just know that you by no means have to get an anemone. HTH

I agree...a clownfish is NOT the reason to get an anemone. You can even try some of the new artificial anemones...heck, I think I saw a picture here of one taking to that. But they definitely don't need an anemone to do well. Not at all! I don't suggest making such a BIG decision because of this (there really is, IMO, a big difference between keeping a FO tank and a full out reef - to begin with, cost is a major difference, as well as watching water quality).

Thanks! Well, he is happy. He took to an artificial plant until we cleaned the tank and the shrimp took it over for a day. Now he just swims around:happy: We are not going to switch over just for the clown fish but because we would like to have a more colorful and live looking tank. Don't get me wrong, I love the fish-only but it just makes us want more. :cheer: We have plenty of patience to wait till all is right first. Just looking ahead and planning.
