Anemones on LR?

I've had my LR for a few days now and have noticed little anemone looking things (if that's what they are).
Anyway, they are almost clear with a whitish tint in some parts. Skinny at the base and then their tentacles flower out kinda like this *.
My question is, will these guys harm my fish when I get some? The largest one worries me because I think he is big enough to easily capture a small goby or bleany. His tentacles are probably about 1/2 inch long right now and he is constantly on the move.
So - is this something I want in my tank or not? Will they just die off after a while considering I don't have any special kind of lighting, or will I have to take measures to rid my tank of these guys?
Thanks!

Ok - after looking at several pics - yep I've got Aiptasia.
I've read several methods of dealing with the buggers and like the idea of introducing a peppermint shrimp into my tank after the cycle is complete. Can peppermints co-exist with a cleaner and coral banded shrimp, or is that not a good mix?

my cleaner at the peppermint shrimp after it molted, and the pep. shrimp picked at my anemone sometimes

Huh. I thought the only things cleaner shrimp will harm is the bacteria on your fish.
Guess the peppermint couldn't defend himself with a soft shell?

i have a cleaner and 3 pep shrimp, and they get along fine they have all been in the tank for about three months and all have molter a few times. but i have noticed that when i feed my anenome they will some times try to take the food from it, unless i feed them aat the same time.

That's good to know. I hadn't planned on buying a peppermint, just the cleaner and coral banded. But now that I've got these weed anemones, I hope the peppermint will take care of them. If not, I may have to go the chemical route.
I also read where someone put boiling water in a pipet or turkey baster and squirted the anemone with it. I believe they pulled the LR out first to do this, but I suppose I could do ithe procedure on the LR with it still in my tank with no ill effects since I have no fish in there yet.

are anemones really a threat to established aquariums? I have several living on my LR and have not added my blennies as of yet. The way the blennies hug the rock, could they be at risk with these anemones?
thanks,

Aiptasia is harmless until you ignore it and it spreads out of control and you decide to add corals and they get stung .
I had aiptasia and added 5 peppermint and BAM...ALL GONE
I have 2 Mated pair of coral banded shrimp 5 peppermint shrimp 5 emarald crabs and 2 cleaners they all get along.

I have some Aiptasia and bought 5 peppermints. They never touched it. If you read about it in this forum, sometimes they eat it, sometimes they dont. I stuck mine with a syringe with some lime juice..very small amount..and they die in within the hour.

If the tank is still cycling I would just use the old kalk method. Mix up a paste of kalk and tank water, suck it up in a syringe and spray them right in thier mouth. This is probably the most affective method, believe I have tried them all. I have even torched them with a kitchen tourch. I have a peppermint and they are good for maintanence, but generally the big ones are left alone. Good Luck.
