anemonie question

I'm not exactly sure what kind of anemonie I have. The guy at the fish store wasn't sure the name of it either. guess that was a bad indication to start with. anywho... he has an orang base with light tan tenticles with pink tips. my question is, it is my understanding that they need light along with feedings, so why is he hiding behind rocks?

I agree with one of the mods signature.. if you can't spell anemone -- you shouldn't keep one.
Sounds like a condi --- they'll eat pretty much anything meaty, and they'll roam anywhere they want looking for just the right amount of flow (or lack of it) and a good place to set up and feed... but may always roam where you don't want (my problem with anemones)

Well, spelling "anemone" wasn't my biggest concern but thanks for the spelling lesson anyway.
I guess he knows what he needs, prpbabbly not a big deal then.

WELL
How long has tank been set up?
What type of lighting do you have?
What are your water parameters?

i agree definatley slowly raise the sg to about 1.024-1.025
also make sure you have all of youre filters and powerhead intakes coverd.
if you have any questions feel free to ask!
p.s. MAKE SURE he eats not feeding anemone is like never feeding youre fish!

ammonia is at 0ppm according to this ammonia test kit I have. I will raise the SP then. was wondering how accurate those hydromerers were. And yes I'm feeding him liquid food and brine shrimp. Was wondering is that enought lighting?

Nitrites...toxic to fish...can't explain any further...LOL
brine shrimp is not really a good food...feed the anemone small pieces of raw shrimp (store bought) or mysis shrimp
What liquid food?
In my opinion your lighting will not work.....anemone's need much higher lights.
also, do not try to raise the sg all at once....when you add your top off water, insstead of using fresh, add salt...make the sg a LITTLE higher than what your sg is now.....raise the sg SLOWLY

I believe ammonia breaks down into nitrites, and then breaks down to nitrates... so if you have a mature tank and have 0 or almost no nitrates... the bacteria process should be working as nature intended and at that point a close to 0 nitrate reading "should" mean you shouldn't have to worry about checking ammonia and nitrites at this point. The removal nitrates are why we run filtration.
I didn't mean anything about the spelling lesson earlier -- I can spell it but not pronounce it :)
Anemones are really funny creatures IMO -- you can have EXACTLY the right set up and they seem to die for some reason.. and others have very questionable tanks with poor lighting and I've seen them thrive... go figure.

That's ok no offense taken about the spelling thing. yeah the guy who sold me the anemone also sold me the tank and he knew what lighting it had. oh well, probabbly should think about giving him to someone local who has a tank or back to the fish store.

sounds more interesting than my life. I'm here on a saturday night reading about the mating habits of the anemone.
