my best friend works at a super reputable fish store and got me an anemone
its got a bright redish base with orangish brown tenticles with kinda purple tips but this morning i woke up and my chocolate chip star fish was on top of my anemone! it was badly damaged with its fleshy insides exposed. it had remaining tenticles but they were deflated. I knew my starfish was not reef safe i was gonna get rid of him, i just didnt to it in time. so my question is do you think my anemone will get better or do you think the crabs are gonna get to it before it gets better

the starfish is gone if youre wondering

Yes...this is totally normal behavior for a chocolate chip star. My guess is it was pretty hungry if it went after the anemone so quickly.
Sea anemones are exceedingly delicate and need mature tanks with pristine water parameters and STRONG (not stock) lighting. Please post your parameters, tank set up and lighting.
My guess is you have a condylactus anemone which is tougher than most...but this is relative. All anemones are pretty delicate.

i doubt it will get better. if anything it will die and crash your tank (if your tank isnt already crashing). hate to be negative, but thats the truth.

How big is you tank? I have never taken out anything that has died in any of my tanks...
Hey ophiura what do you mean by STRONG (not stock) lighting?

they need high output t-5 lighting, or metal halides. you could probably get away with VHO (very high output) as well.

he is saying that you need metal haildes or t-5 lighting to provide the right type of light for the anemone. they need really intense light and stock lighting(florecent tubes or power compacts) will not work

Yup, "stock" lighting...the light that comes with most tank set ups, is typically not enough for anemones.

and as bazaar as it sounds, it almost completely healed up by the time i got home. i turned on the lights and it deflated its prolly really stressed out but i think it might be ok
uhmm its a five gallon and i have two 10 watt 50/50s so ive got around 4 watts per gallon which is pretty sufficiant for an anemone

i just switched phones and i gotta deal with some stuff with verizon before i can but its all slouched down i mean its base. some of its inner tentacles are visibly eaten but theres alot of them still intact. theyre deflated tho. and around its mouth is some fleshy tissue, but its ALOT better then it was when i found him this morning
