anenome question

I bought another anenome, they never seem to last more then 2 months in my tank.
The tank is 125 gallons and the salinity 1.023. I have metal halide lights.
Why do they die?
What should I be feeding them?

I have had bubble, carpet, and sebae anenomes, they all die after less then three months.
Everything else in the tank does fine.
So the shrimp that is good for them to eat is the same shrimp I can get in the seafood section of the store? Raw shrimp right?

just get silversides from your lfs. any chance you have a butterfly fish in your tank? is their a lot of water movement?

They die because less than 7% of anemones
brought into captivity, live up to 2 years.
Only 3% live up to 5 years. These are stats
taken from Reef Keepers with 2+ years
experience.
Compared to their Ocean life- which can be
hundreds of years. That's not a very high
captivity rate.
I've had my Bubble Tip for 4 months.

No buterfly fish. There is a tang (who likes to eat the green plants) and a hawk fish.
The anenome right now is on a rock opposite a powerhead on a wavemaker strip.
There are no (or very few) places in the tank that do not have some water movement via the power heads and return from sump.

im not sure what your problemcould be you might just be unlucky ive had 3 of my rock anemones for about half a year now and the rest of my anemones seem great just try to make sure they are eating before you get them the ones that eatsilversides are easier to keep alive as they dont have to relyon the water

If they don't survive in your tank, why do you keep buying them?
They need good lighting, good water movement, covered powerheads and food-food-food. Feed them at least 3-4 times a week.
Shrimp, scallops, mussles, cod, grouper, silversides. Feed a variety of foods.

Shrimp are easy to get, but what aer silversides?
Can I just get them fresh fish from the deli?
Like salmon, mackrel, orange roughy, etc and just give them small pieces?
I buy them (anenome) becuase they are pretty and I want the clown fish to live in them.
