Anenome Removal

The rocks are all fused together as one giant clump at this point. I didn't mind the anemone stinging my zoos, but now it is killing my birds nest coral, and I would rather remove the anemone now before it does more damage...

Kahnsell,
it kind of sounds like you want this thing out dead or alive. If so, just take a razor blade and cut it off. Just a thought.

yep, tell him to cut it out so when he cuts it deadly toxins release into the water, GG.

what about warm or hot water at the base of it to release it from the rocks ... would that work ?

a sudden temperature change might kill an anemone just like it does to fish, thats why u float the bag in the tank for a while..

thats true.. but to something that big... cant you just aim it for direct contact with base and not kill the whole thing ..... i mean it would take awhile to have that whole thing die with direct application to the base where it's connected

i suggest- clip ur finger nails the day before, start to try and wiggle ur finger underneath the base, once u have that just slooowly take him off the rock, this might take a while but if u do it right u wont hurt the anemone. u could probly also buy a powerful powerhead and aim it directly at it

This is the problem. His base is way under my entire rock formation... I would cut him to pieces, but I am concerned about toxins entering the water and killing my coral, fish and myself... I would have to drain all of the water to get him completely above the water line. I would like him to shrivel up, but everytime I mess with him, he doesn't seem to be affected at all... I also thought about dropping a big rock on top of him so he doesn't get enough light, but then he may just move around the rock. I really need to get him out of there ASAP!!!

Put a big bowl upside down on top of it. I bet the anemone will move after a day or so like that...
Now all you have to do is catch it on the move!

Well, I had a bunch of people over for the Super Bowl and at halftime we decided to rip the giant sucker out of my tank. Well, we had to totally remove all of the rocks on one side of the tank. We took out the rock that he was holding onto. Since he refused to let go, we tried to spray hot water on his base. This did not work. So we had to break the rock that he was holding onto. Once we broke it in half, we placed him in a separate bucket. The bad part was that since it was late Sunday, there were no fish stores open. Thus, I left him in a bucket overnight:nervous:
I am sure he is dead. So now I must somehow discard him. I think he is too big for the toilet... I guess I will have to take him to a landfill or dump him in the lake or river (joking...)
It's too bad that he died, but at least I can now safely add things to my tank without fear of them being stung.
I really feel sorry for my clown fish. They were so happy. Laying eggs on a bi-weekly basis. Now they dont' know what to do or where to hang out. Poor guys...

I'm not happy about the situation, but the anemone was huge, and if I did not remove him now, he would continue to move around and sting all of my corals.
The moral to the story is:
DON'T ADD AN ANEMONE TO A REEF TANK IF YOU PLAN ON KEEPING OTHER CORALS!!!!

thats just totally wrong what u did about that situation imo.. how long did u have the anemone? i think its worth more than a few zoo's that multiply alot faster than anemones

I've had the anemone for a year. I did not mind that it was stinging the zoos. But if I did not remove the anemone now, this would be an on-going problem since it was spreading so quickly. I did not want it to move to my group of acros or my ricordeas. I made the decision to remove it to save the lives of the rest of my corals...
My new problem is that my clowns are now hosting in my bubble coral and the bubble is not happy. That is why I originally bought the anemone.
