how long is the average life span of an anenome? just wanting to know cuz by bro said it was about 9 months. also, if they die, is it true that ur water will cloudy?

The bubble Tip aneomones are the most hardy. They require strong lighting and moderate current. Other anomeone types have a less of a success rate, such as the sabea anemome.
The stink and cloudy part, yes, if one dies it breaks down and severly polutes your tank. It can crash your other animals. If one does die, you need to remove it right away.

In captivity 9 months is about right. Not that they can't be kept longer but people that don't know or care about the requirements drag the average down. In nature, and proper aquariums, life span is longer than ours.

as far as in captivity, most do not survive 3 months, many do not survive 6 months. Very few peopel have had long term sucess with anenomes. But think about what yowuould consider long term?
The true life span of anenomes is unknown, but in theory, they live forever. They can regernate their cells. ANd they also reproduce by binary fission (splitting). So theoredicly they do live forever.

I've always wondered about that. If they have a lifespan of (for example) 100 years, wouldn't all the clones and originals die around the same time? Like a mass anemone die off?
Just one of many things I don't understand. I guess it supports the theory that they live forever.

haha. i know you have had your mass of bubble tips for a long time thomas. and it is very impressive. Im just saying, can you measure what a logn time is if they dont realy die of old age?

I've had my bta for almost a year...the bubble tip looks good and eats well. Plus it's clown takes very good care of it.
Now I do have a gbta that allowed itself to get caught in the powerhead pre-filter. I was able to gently tease out its tentacles from the filter and it is still alive, but it stays hidden behind rocks and does not accept offers of food. The clown tries to take of it too. It has been over a month since the powerhead incident. I can only assume the bta is trying to heal itself. Fingers crossed.
