Hi, Just set up my new 190 gallon tank and put all of my live rock from my old 90 gallon with most of the live sand. Had the rock and sand fallow for 6 weeks after ich outbreak. Now all I have are two new angelfish and my pair of clowns that I have had for years. Had the new 4 inch Majestic in a quarenteen tank for a month while waiting for my tank to come in. 8 days ago I purchased a 6 inch goldflake angelfish on line who is fat and healthy looking but I cannot get him to eat. He looks at food and doesn't seem to recognize it as food. Don't know what he ate in the wild.
Put the 4 inch majestic angel and the goldflake angel in the tank late last night and they are getting along fine. The majestic has eaten anything I give him like a little pig from day one. Do you think the goldflake angel can learn to eat different foods from watching the majestic? What can I try to get him to eat? He looks healthy. I was thinking he was on a hunger strike because he was not happy in a 30 gallon rubbermaid for 8 days. Any suggestions would help. Thanks, Lesley

Have you tried frozen brine shrimp?? When I got my Koran angel he was on a hunger strike too. Fed some brine and chowed it down. After that he has eaten anything and everything. Hope this helps.

What all have you offered the fish? One of the problem is that the fish you have is close to an adult, and these can be particularly difficult to wean over to captive fare. Conversely, my lfs just got a large goldflake in and it began eating immediately after placed in his display tank.
Angels I've kept seem to appreciate a large variety of foods; Nori on a clip, pellets, sponge based foods, chopped mussell, clam, plankton, mysis, bloodworms, Marine Cuisine, Emerald Entree', to name a few. You can even try some live ghost shrimp, which might elicit a feeding response. Goldflakes are beautiful but not the easiest to keep. Good luck with yours.
Another reason I don't buy fish online. You simply don't have the chance to observe them prior to purchase, and with an expensive species like this, I wouldn't take the risk.

I myself have recently purchased a halfback angel, and have had trouble feeding it. brine shrimp is the only thing that it appearsto be eating.

I had the same issue with my Queen Angel when I got her. She was huge and healthy and ate fresh veggies like a monster. She would not eat other foods though. I called the place where I got her and they fed her pellet formula one and dispursed it through the tank and stated that she picked it off the rocks.
I would keep a close eye on the goldflake, if she is not eating I would take her out and put her in QT with vitamins and copper. She could have internal diseases that aren't apparent on the outside. I lost a few angels that way.
Good luck
