i want to talk to u about our carpet.
when we first put it in ( we put it in b.c we got a sweet deal on it and we wanted the percs to host something) it took the percs around a month to host it. all throughout that first month, our raccoon butterfly niped at it quite a lot. once the percs started hosting it, everytime the butterfly would come up to munch on it, the percs would chase it away and butterlfy eventually stopped trying to eat it. my question is, will the be the case if we add a queen or will the queen just bypass the percs ( bc it will be more dominant then them) and be able to munch on the carpet anemone. thanks for your help and time
eric-
Sounds like an impulse buy and like many impulse buys will eventually spell disaster. The butterfly is not an aggressive fish. They are peaceful, but are not reef safe, hence the pecking at the anemone.
The queen is an aggressive fish and as she grows, she will becomre more and more stubborn. Your clowns will try to chase her off at first and she might respect them, but when she is 0ver 8" she will rule the tank. Leading to one of 2 things. (1) your clowns will eventually stop hosting the amenone and move on, whereas your anemone will be picked to death. (2) your clowns will defend the anemone to the death. The clowns will be harrassed so much that they will either die from exhaustion or from ich because they are stressed out.
If the queen doesnt do it, the trigger most likely will.
On the otherhand, you could get lucky. The queen might respect the clowns and leave the anemone alone. The world is a funny place.
