I used to have a black one, we would put a silverside on a stick, dangle it in front on the fish, it would wigle its lure, we'd move it closer and it was gone. So i would say they will eat frozen, but it might be one of those things that varies from fish to fish.
What tank setups do you have? Would he be in a species only or would you be putting him in with other fish? If yes to the other fish.... whats ya got in there?
the angler is only 1 inch big. the lfs has it listed as bali red/brown angler. how fast do they grow? my mandarin is 2.5 inches long and and its fat (thats what she said).
I'm talking about lunch in the future. A full grown angler of any variety can eat a mandarin.
I would never buy an angler for a community tank that I did not have ID'd. If it turned out to be a commerson, or one of several other large anglers, it wouldn't make a difference how big your fish were.... they'd ALL be lunch.
If you can, go back and get a good side view pic of it and a good pic of it's "lure". We can ID it for you.
That's the best advice I can give is to hold off until it's ID'd unless you plan on a species only tank for it.
There was this amazing commerson at one of the local stores. Bright orange and bigger than my head. I would just sit and watch. Unfortunately their aisles were too narrow for me to back up and get a decent pic.... but OMG. AWESOME!
i used to have one in my reef that was 6-7" long, awesome fish but seriously when he gets a few inches bigger he will run a train through ALL of your fish. They are awesome tho, i fed mine frozen on occasion, but mostly gold fish (then i found out that was terrible for the fish!!!) but he would run through some pretty big gold fish with no problem!!!!
they r so awesome, especially the way they walk on the sand. i think i will pass for now. maybe i wll get one in the future if i set up a dedicated tank for it.
