Annoying red line through my computer monitor

I just got back home from a family dinner to find a red line running vertically on the left side of my laptop monitor. Before I left for the dinner, I ran my spyware/adware removal programs: Microsoft AntiSpyware, McAfee VirusScan, Spybot S&D, and Ad-Aware professional. I do this regularly without problems. I have tried rebooting a few times, but the line even appears during the reboot. Have also tried doing a system restore and reinstalling video drivers. Anybody got any ideas to why this happened? If you need any more info, just ask the question. TIA
Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. You can see the red line on the left side of the screen running vertically. It appears ontop of everything, never behind.

Turn it off and then back on.

Maybe turn it off for like 15 mins.

i would hate to say it but it looks as if your screen has taken the big poop
... call a computer repair place and just ask them ... they should be able to tell you for sure ...
sorry

That happens when that row of pixels has, for lack of a better word, died. In your case, the blues and greens have died leaving the red.
Unfortunately it is not a fixable problem. :nope: On a positive note though, its not likely to spread/get worse

is there a master charge at the end of a row ..?? if so.. then that thing got shorted maybe and blew out the blue and green ?
i always thought that each pixel is sparked on it's own... or is that only in plasmas?

Thats probably more likely the case . . . but either way, the end result is the same. I am just going by how it was explained to me by a service tech at Dell.
