One of my damsels died in the last day or so..
Could it be that my arrow crab killed them?
My levels are still a little high..
Just wondering..

Damsels can die during a cycle too. Just because a lot of people cycle with them and they are hardy it doesnt mean they are immune to the stress of a cycle. I cycled my 55g with 6 damsels and only 3 made it. Try a cocktail shrimp instead of a damsel:D

i expereinced a 50% death rate as well... i wont do that again.. plus.. getting out the survivors sucks when you are ready to put in other fish.

Sometimes they can be aggressive toward new fish. Personally i don't think they should be added to cycle tanks. I would much rather add live rock to cycle, that way you are investing in spectacular bio-filtration and cycling your tank and not wasting fish. But damsels have been considered the most aggressive fish for their size, some you will find many people who just want them out of their tank.

I think that damsels are mean and irritable. They pester and annoy everything else in the tank. I'd cycle with grocery store shrimp instead.

I like the shrimp method as well. I don't feel the need to stress out some fish when I can use a dead shrimp.

Any fish that survives a cycle will become nasty.
I'm positive that it is a very stressful experience
and personaly don't use "live cyclers" anymore.
Any new system I set up now, I just use the liverock &
sand to do it for me. Uncured liverock will do a great cycling
job.

Not blaming you because a lfs probally told you that using damsels is a "great way" to cycle a tank-wrong. There are other more better ways to cycle a tank then with making fish live in there own waste. The other thing is that if the damsels do make it you probally wont want them and they are a .... to catch especially if you have lr. Damsels are mean, no other word Imo! I am not trying to yell at you because I am sure someone told you it was okay as that happens to a lot of people and I think it is bull.
Also your arrow is a good addition as long as you dont want to have corals I don think they are reef safe. I have one and I think that he is scared endless of my fish so I dont think he is a threat at all. Neat animal

damsels are fine if you plan on putting in larger fish, and other aggressive fish that can fend for themselves...
