Another feeding Anenome thread!!

I bought a rock last weekend with 7 bubble tip anenomies on it. I have fed them twice. Today being the second time. I have only ever owned a condy anen. before, and that was awhile ago, when I should not have owned one and did not know enough about them! When I feed them they immed. retract in. They do open after a few minutes after eating. Is this normal behavior?? Also, when talking with someone else on this board, he thought they looked bleached. Do they??? The bubble tips when inflated are white, when less inflated they are tan. What do you think. I'm so paranoid!!!

They do look light but I can still see color, not bad. Feeding behavior sounds normal actually very good. What kind of lighting do you have? If you have good strong lighting w/supplimental feeding , they should color up for you in time.

75 gallon with a t-5 nova pro. 6 54 watt bulbs, so a little over 4 watts per gallon. Have them at top of tank. They were at the top of the other persons tank under MHs. They certainly seem very happy, they have all stayed on their rock, minus one that just put it's foot on the rock below. Just want to make sure they stay happy and healthy! I plan on selling some of these at some point. I want to make sure I am selling healthy specimens when I get to that point. 7 is too many in a 75!
P.S. I used to spell the anemone the proper way, but then saw multiple posts with the spelling anenome. Thought I had it wrong before so I changed the way I spelled it. Ah, well we live and we learn!!!

Don't let it get to you. You have to try to grow thicker skin and

it off. I don't think 7 is too many in a 75, as long as you keep up your water quality your fine. A strong feeding response is a very good sign so keep feeding several times a week. Soaking the food in selcon or zoe will help boost the nutrition. Are your clowns hosting?
They may be reacting to the lower level of light, extra feeding is important, keep it up.

Thanks Lmecher, Clowns are hosting, but I'm not seeing them feeding the Nems. I'll keep up with feeding and see how things go.

Some clowns will drop food making it look as if they are feeding their anemone, I don't think this is intentional. Anemones do benefit from a hosting clowns waste, their dropped tidbits and circulation of water through thier tentacles. If you watch your clowns it really seems as if they are enjoying themselves. Hosting is beneficial to all three parties involved. The anemone, the fish and us.

Not for nothing, but I am pretty sure those are rock anemones. Do they move around that rock pretty good?

I'm pretty sure they are BTA's. They seem to big to be rock anemones. Not farmiliar with rock anems though.

I would continue to feed the fish with a high quality frozen food, and when you do, feed in the area over the anemones and feed heavily enough that a few tiny morsels will make it past the fish into the anemones (dont overfeed). Dont worry about direct feeding of the anemone, but do make sure that they get a few of the left overs. If the clowns find a large hunk of food, they will often take it to the anemone for storage while the clowns go back for smaller pieces that are easier to manage, When they get back to the food they stored in the anemone, they often find that the anemone has eaten the goods. ( they are usually not feeding the anemone, but just saying "" hey, will you hold on to this for a second or three? "" )
