Tigerseye mandarinfish are a species that do best in a well established aquarium as they need a natural population of benthic copepods (food) so if you have a young tank what awhile, mabey someone else can answer about the lr. also dont use the cap locks it looks like your yelling

You can take your rock and put it in your FW Tank it will keep the ph high if you want to keep fish that like high ph.
The best way to soak it is if it small enough to fit in the tank of your toilet, place it there and leave it for a month. This will allow the salt to be removed each time you flush. Just think how many water changes that is in a month

sorry about the caps everyone .. its not live rock .. it is just an ornamental peice of rock but i dont want to pollute the fresh water tank in anyway .. is there a way i can clean the salt off of the rock before putting it in ?

I think everyone is getting a mandarin dragonette confused with a mantis shrimp? Maybe?
A madarin is for a wellestablished tank with lots aof copepodsand isopods which they need to live other wise its a slow starvation death. And I'm speaking from experience :(

If it's just ornamental rock then you can bleach it and then wash it really really well, get all beach off and put it in. :)

Strange thread <img src="graemlins//yeahright.gif" border="0" alt="[yeahright]" />
Not so sure I agree with you Christopher on suggesting to put any fish tank rock in the back of your toilet tank.
I know it's fresh water - but I've also repaired a few in my day - and this is not considered a clean controlled environment for curing or rinsing rocks for this hobby.
I've heard of this before and quite honestly have to laugh each time.
I can think of many other ways to clean rock besides the use of the toilet tank.
Have you ever actually done this before or are you just jerk'n us around ... if I may ask ??

I agree with broomer5 I don't think the toilet is the way to go. I also have to disagree with the bleach thing. I would just rinse it a few times and then let it soak then place it in your tank.

Just boil the thing. That'll kill every thing on it. If it works for killing germs and stuff for babies bottles, it should work on a rock!
