Well two weeks in the qt, one week into hypo and the fish is on his side when I woke up. It was a Flame hawkfish. The fish was one of a kind, eating out of my hand the way he acted when you went to feed him. There is no excuse, he ate great twice a day. and showed no signs of sickness. Water was great and everything read 0's, ph was 7.89. Qting is starting to really get to me. Anything that you can think of that I should check?

Just a quick question, Were you QT'ing the fish because it sick or because it was a new addition? I'm also QT a few fish before I add it to my DT. I'm in my 2nd week of QT and the fish show no signs of disease. I'm skeptical whether I should put it through hypo or not.

I had a thread about it 2 weeks ago. I was just curious to see why she had her hawkfish in hypo. My intentions were not to hijack her thread...

Sep,
Everything was monitored. Ph was stable, it did drop from 8.0 to 7.89 I dropped the sal over a 2 1/2 days. The fish was a new addition thats why it was in hypo. It was the only fish in the QT.

How long was it at your LFS before you purchased it? I am thinking this was just a very stressed fish. I think we take for granted that just because they look good and are eating that these fish are healthy and shouldnt have anything bad happen to them. This is often not the case, most fish are very stressed have basically shut down their entire immune system and any other resource they can to give them energy for escape. This is not only very stressful but also makes them extremly suseptable to disease and parasites. If this fish was new to your LFS, you bought it acclimated to your QT let him sit for 2 weeks then started Hypo, IMO that is a lot for a fish to handle no matter how hardy a species they are. Again JMO..

It sounds as though you did everything correctly. Sometimes fish just die. It is hard to tell what the health of this fish was when you bought it. I am very sorry for your loss.
