Turned out lights today and watched my rock come to life, newest thing of notice is a small raised area on one rock has 2 long tentacles coming out. They are white about 1 mm thick, and about 2 inches long. They seem to be searching the rocks within reach for food particles and they retract quickly. At first I thought maybe it was a bristle worm, but these are smooth like an anemone (like a pink tip but much thinner). I wish i could get a pic, but its only out in the dark and with it being white/translucent I doubt it'd show well. Oh I also don't think its a digitate hydroid as this doesnt have the little nobbies on it like those do.
I'm sorry to ask so many questions here but out of all the boards i've read/posted on this one is the best with answers and staying friendly. Eventually I'll have learned enough to help out the next generation of noobies ;)

Could be a mini brittle star.....and don't worry....if you don't ask...you will never learn..:)
Thanks much, would a brittle's arms be completely smooth and translucent and be completely anti-light ? I always thought brittle stars had like hairs on them? (see image for what I'm thinking of)

I have a bunch of mini serpant star looking things(i can only see their tentacles sticking out of the rock at times), but they have color, the red/stripe pattern on them like full grown serpants.
Will these things eventually grow to the size of an actual serpent star, or just remain micro?

Is it worth getting them out of the rock so they can enjoy the tank or are they "happy" just living inside the rock?

Just leave them....they stay hidden mostly, and I guess that's what makes them happy LOL
