I was just curious if anyone knows what this are. I have noticed serveral appear on my rocks recently. They are little white things, look almost fuzzy or something.

I had some of those, too. I didnt know what it was so I picked one off and stuck it in a tiny tupperware container with some water from the tank. To the touch its a firm spongey texture. Looks semi-translucent with a green/blueish hue. Resembles some kinda land fungus.
So I took it to a LFS and the lady there had no idea what it was. She just said "I dunno." and "...its some kinda organism." Yeah, no kiddin. Sheesh.
Anyhow, I took it home and sat it on a shelf next to the tank meaning to take it to another LFS for a second opinion (been meaning to take pics to ask in here as well.)
Well, its been there for oh, about a month I think. I've changed its water like twice and its still alive. At first, it grew out these spikey lookin things. I think it was looking for something to grab onto. I put in a tiny branch of some calcerous stuff and it attached itself to it within the day. It was in a shaded area for a bit and it seemed to have shrunk a little so I moved it where it would get a little more light. It looks like its growing back to its original size now so apparently its somewhat photosynthetic. Although I've seen these things usually in shaded areas under my LR.
I dont think it will harm anything in the tank. I'm considering putting it back in. Might post a pic soon if anybody's interested. I'll be able to take a good closeup of the thing since its in that little container still.
Can anybody give more info on what exactly these things are?
