Ill be setting up my 125g tank tomorrow since I now have everything, I will pick up my LR in morning. Just wondering when I set this up should I wait for the tank to cycle before adding my LS or add it at the same time I ad my LR? Also when should I add the clean up crew I heard so many different things as to when to add them? Also what is the recommend starting clean up crew for a 125g

Add the LR first then add the LS. Wait till your tank cycles then slowly add the CUC. You are going to get a lot of recommendations for a CUC so I am not going to touch that one.

so after I put in the LR goahead and put in the LS? No need to wait for the cycle to add the LS? Just asking because I was told I would get detrious all in the sand and thats not a good thing. Any truth to that?

You are going to have die off from the LR and LS no matter when you introduce it to a tank. IMO if you wait till the cycle is over and add the LS you run the risk of causing a secondary cycle.

Add them at the same time. Be sure that your LR is on the bottom glass and not on top of the LS. You can add the crew immediately. Only fish will produce detrius, and if you have a good crew you won't have to worry about that. I am guessing you are going for a reef? IMO go with 30+ astrea snails, 5+ turbo snails, 20+ nassarius snails, 25+ crabs, 3+ emerald crabs. "+" because you could always go big and get more. Keep the Q's coming!

Agree with everything but adding the CUC right away. While inverts are hardy, why put them through bad conditions like the cycle? After you add the LS and LR you have a couple of options for speeding the cycle up.
1. ghost feed the tank
2. add a raw shrimp
If you are patient you could just let the LR and LS complete the cycle.

Agreed. And you are probably going to be spending a boat load on the LR anyways. Hold out on the crew for a couple weeks, and save up some $$

Well I just set up my tank. Here are some shots even though you cannot see due to the sand. The only thing I dont have is my T-5 Lighting, and my skimmer. These should between today and monday. I had to upgrade my skimmer, and the lighting I wanted a dual switch it only came with 1 switch for both sets. Stll have to get all the cords put up nice and neat

Congrats on the new tank build! But... Aren't you just a hair bit concerned that the water level on your sump might be a tad high (like, a LOT high)? Have you tested to ensure it won't overflow if/when the power goes out?

you can look at my thread too. Right now its somewhere near the top/middle of the reef section. I also have a 125 gallon.
*edit* heres the link.. https://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/showthread.php?t=316815
If you plan on going reef buy the fish that are reef safe, so you dont have to deal with trying to catch the ones that arnt reef safe later.
The clean up crew i started with is:
20 astrea snails
15 Tongan nassarius snails
5 nerite snails
5 margaritta snails
10 cerith snails
3 tongan fighting conches.
So far they have had a lot to eat (i just added them, my tank has been up for 1 1/2 -2 months now.
I will wait quite some time, maybe a month or 2 and see how they are cleaning everything up, if it seems i am getting more algae and they cant keep up i will buy more, but why waste the money and buy a HUGE clean up crew and then watch them die when the food runs out?
Also i would suggest not to get hermit crabs. I had them in my 72 and they killed a lot of my snails even though i had hundreds of empty snails laying around for them...
Anyways i hope i helped.
