Ok...got another odd one in my tank that I've not been able to find on the usual 'Hitchhiker' pages...
At first this looked like a plant of some sort with thin, brown runners growing out of a piece of rock. Last week we noticed that the tips of the runners move on their own and seem to be catching plankton or copepods as they swim by. It's grown to about an inch in overall diameter now and is growing quickly, and I'm noticing it growing in two other parts of the tank...
This doesn't resemble any form of Aiptasia that I've seen - doesn't really look like an anemone at all. The runners don't look at all like 'tentacles' - they are all very thin and branch out in different directions - more reminiscent of a plant. It seems to be growing directly out of the rock...no tube or pedal base/disc that can be seen
At the tips of the runners some of them almost look like a
[hr]
, with now what appears to be fine hairs around the last few millimeters of the runner towards the tips. On some tips there are small opaque bubbles now.
The tips move in a random 'twitching' motion, and are obviously catching and feeding on something microscopic. While they seem to 'feed' on a 24 hour schedule, they seem more active in the day time hours.
Ideas???
Thanks...
Peace...
