I am looking to get a school of anthias fish in my 75 gal reef. I think it will add some nice color and will be great for a peaceful reef environment. I mostly need help deciding this-
1. Which Anthias are the easiest to keep in an aquarium?
2. Should I have 2 or 3 anthias?
Stock list:
2 clowns
1 mandarin
Future:
Anthias- 2 or 3
Hippo Tang
Flame Angel
Please let me know what you think!!
Thanks!

Anthias do very well in schools but i believe that you need a much larger tank than 75 gallons. And unfortunately, the Hippo Tang will not be able to live a full and happy life in that small of a tank. Im sure there are exceptions, but why risk it. Best of luck!

You might be pushing a bit; but I think a trio of Carberryi Anthias would be all right, if you skip the tang. These fish are gorgeous and are quite small for anthias--about3" max.

Flame Angel is a great idea, beatiful fish, stick with that one.
Firefish, Royal Gramma, Pseudochromis, Fairy Wrasse, there are some pretty Blenny's and Goby's. Maybe even a Goby/Pistol Shrimp combo. Jawfish. The Tiger Jawfish gets relatively big and is pretty colorful, not to mention just crazy looking. Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish seem to do pretty well in a community tank as long as they are added last.
The thing about stocking a peaceful 75 gallon reef is that you gotta stick with smaller fish. It seems limiting, but at the same time, you can actually get a lot of diversity.

I considered a school of Anthias as well. I ended up with 3 Green Chromis instead, and I am very happy with my decision. The Green Chomis are very hardy, easy to care for, cheaper, 100% peaceful and reefsafe, and have wonderful personalities. They always come to the side of the glass to say hello when they see me, they are gorgeous, and school all the time. Consider 3 Green Chromis!

Anthias need their space and require alot of care. I had two females before and just preparing the food twice a day was hard. Green chromis are neat to watch but they tend to single each other out over time and it becomes a game of survival of the fittest.
