Any bird wachers?

I can't name many birds but I do enjoy watching them. I love the weekends because I sit outside and watch the hummingbirds while drinking coffee. One hummingbird is a mean ass and won't let another bird near his food. I must have 20 or so birds this year and man have they been draining my 5 feeders! I also have a couple of feeders for all the opther birds but the squirrels keep tearing up my feeders and I do by the so called "squirrel proof" feeders. Anyway, I guess this is how I attempt to relax on the weekends. THe birds are nice for an hour or so and then I say the hell with it and go inside for a beer! )))

I enjoy the bird's as well, I was watching a humming bird attack a chickidee this morning. This is a great time of the year, up here in Canada the mornings and evening are getting cooler.

I have 2 (seed) feeders on my back porch....I get a large variety of birds, large blue jays, your basic little brown guys, red and brawn cardinals, and these small birds...like finch size, but they have the most amazing neon colors...green, orange, red....they are beautiful....I can't ever get pics though

I have 2 large hummingbird feeders that hang on my front porch...they hold 26oz, and I fill them daily.....there have been over 20 hummingbirds (probably more) out there at a time....they are amazing. I know which trees they nest in, and they fly between both, playing with each other too cute

I just put out my hummingbird feeder and I'm hoping to "catch" a few. There's one dominant male in the area and he's been beating the snot out of the others. I hope he doesn't keep them away. No matter how much exposure I have to this little guys, they make me smile and stop in my tracks still.

We are totally redoing the back yard. It will be a hummingbird paradise.

When you redo your backyard find some hardy upright fuscias, they are the ones that get covered by hundreds of small blooms and the hummingbirds will come. They also seem to really be attracted to bee balm and tiger lilies.

My favorite thing to do is take a hummingbird feeder camping with me. Never seems to take them long to find it, even when I am over in the desert.

We feed pretty heavily and get a lot of birds because our property is in the foothills of the Cascade mountains and we get both birds that usually stay further down in the valley or higher up. Probably the most suprising birds we have seen around here is the occasional snipe in our marsh and wood ducks. I have two snags that I have left standing and the peleated woodpeckers visit regularly which around here is not a very common bird.

We get to many bees and wasps just because of the Russian sage which is going bye bye this weekend. If I put out humming bird feeders it would really be crazy out there. We have a seed feeder but it draws in the black birds so I just let nature take it's course. We have a lot of vines on the fence and a couple arbors that get blooms and the little birds love to take baths in the pond. Get a few robins and the little yellow birds whatever they are but what I really like is the amount of dragonflies and butterflies we get. I spend a couple hours a day in the hot tube exercising and get to see a lot of stuff out there. Even have a bunch of ravens that hang out in a tree next door. Also Herons flying over head once in a while. Cool as long as they don't stop by the pond for a snack.

Talking about bees - I put up some of those fake hornets nests and they seem to keep the wasps away. Give it a try!!!
