My local channels went down around 8:30pm. I found a thread on a satellite forum with others in PA and IL experiencing the same problem. Anyone here experiencing that?
never had that problem but dont feel to bad, even when we get a REALLY light sprinkle my entire system goes out and says its "Searching for signal" sad part is..... i pay extra for the warranty and they refuse to send someone out to fix it until i can call them while its happening, Bad part about that.... im usualy on hold for an hour until im directed to the correct person!
I've been a DirecTV subscriber for 6 years and have always been happy with the service. I too had service interrupted on Thursday night. It was only the local channels though so I was able to switch my A/B box to the antenna; unfortunately, Tivo was still pulling from the satellite box, so it missed about 30 minutes of CSI and 30 minutes of the Apprentice.
I've been with DirecTV since they first came out. I think it was in 1993. I've had good experience with them for the most part.
Reed X. Some things you can check yourself. Rainfade happens and it is usually the clouds rather than the rain but rain does cause it also. Check your signal meter strength and tune it in as high as possible. I've always heard that you should dial it in using transponder 2 instead of 1. If it is really bad, you can buy an aftermarket dish. I think it is 36 inches and from what I hear will significantly cut rainfade.
One big mistake that a lot of people do (and some installers) is installing a dish below a roof eave or some other obstruction and thinking a clear path is directly into the dish. The actual satellite signal does not come straight into the dish. It enters at about a 15 degree angle up and projects to the LNB.
