Are you in Houston or will you be visiting?
First check out the local reef club online: MARSH
Sometimes other hobbyists are the best LFS

There are LOADS of stores in Houston. If you live here, what part of town are you in?

I am going to have to make a trip down there to see that.
I live about 3.5 hours from Houston in Temple.

Hey guys, thanks for the help! I'll have to check out fishland, sounds better than the ones in Tulsa. Ophiura, im moving in two days and were gonna live in Katy. Were being transferred to Houston because my dad works for conocophillips. I didnt reply in a while because i was having a going away party with my friends.

I am not extremely familiar with Katy but there are loads of stores on the west side.
T&T on HWY6
Fishland as mentioned - good shop though I have seen some fish, like any other store, with issues and I do not like any store where prices aren't always clear and there are different prices for different people.
Global Fish & Pets on Bellaire
City Pets on Beechnut (I think?)
Fish Ranch II on 59
Village Tropical not far off 59
Aquatic World on 290 and Jones
Aquarium World (where I used to work
) on 290 at Hollister - has a 40,000g display tank, a 3,000 "tang sea" which is like a saltwater pond). Definitely worth a visit at the very least.
B&B on 1960
and just others here and there! But most of all, I have received good stuff from fellow reefers

I really like Fishland on Westhiemer and Synott....between Eldridge and Dairy Ashford. The owner is Andy....very nice guy. I wouldn't say they are parasite free but they have the cleanest tanks I have seen in Houston....I have never seen a dead fish in a tank unlike other stores. And if they don't have a fish that you want, he is more than willing to order one for you and usually orders 2-3 of the fish so you have a selection.
Other LFS I frequent are T and T, City Pets, Fish Ranch and Aquarium world.
Aquarium world has a lot of selection of livestock, but IMO are VERY overpirced, but if you are unwilling to wait, they may have the fish you want on hand....I would never buy ANY of their dry products (unless I am in a jam)...much cheaper at the other stores mentioned.

Yeah I visited Aquariam world often a couple of years ago and a couple of times this year and I gotta say....the dry goods are freakishly overpriced. Many items are going for more than twice the average price. However the livestock does seem to be well. When i purchased my liferock from them, it was loaded with life, unlike another LFS thats next to almeda mall. I've love to visit all the other LFS's in Houston, I just cant find them! lol. Im currently staying in the Lake Jackson area and all i've got here is a little shop in downtown with little to choose from...

easiest thing is visit Marsh.
There is a list of local stores on there.
I personally like Village Tropical I have never seen a dead or sick fish there. I do like T&T but the one time I went there they had several fish that just didn't look very good. Not saying they were sick they just didn't look right.
I bought LR from Global fish and Pets - they have a nice selection and are reasonable in prices.
As stated above Aquarium World is awesome to visit - BUT they are way overpriced on just about everything.

Can I just say something about aquarium world?
Because this is a real pet peeve of mine.
AW has a 7 day guarantee on their SW fish. They have staff that have been there YEARS...they test your water and keep a record of the water tests, again, for years. They will not sell fish if your water doesn't test out. Certain fish they will not sell unless you bring in water to test. I may disagree with their opinions on things, but overall the store is good.
YES, they are expensive. They are a very large, quite open bright and clean (not "hole in the wall") store with HUGE displays, very large selection, etc. Honestly, school groups came there for tours. I gave many of them.
People come on these boards and gripe about how there is no guarantee at their LFS etc, the staff are stupid, etc. Well, sometimes if you want that, you will have to pay for it. Yes, the prices are high, but I have seen some poor stores in this area with equally expensive dry goods, with no guarantee. Shop around, decide what is important to you....and maybe price makes all the difference. But if I see anyone complaining about the lack of guarantee

I don't like having to ask on the price of something; I don't like special prices for different people. I buy most of my dry goods online except for salt, but fish I always want to see in person, and I would not buy from several of the LFS' mentioned, regardless of how cheap they are. JMO
but sometimes you get what you pay for....
