I would love to get one of the Big Green Eggs -- the large size and stand.... but man its about as expensive as this saltwater stuff

Like 1100 bucks... but man the food and recipes I've been seeing.... everything looks soo yummy
If you own one... let me know what you think or share your experience with it.

They are made of ceramic. Pretty sure they weigh well over 100 lbs. I've seen them at a few stores but never tried lifting one..

The mini camping size is 30lbs.. and pretty small... the large is 140lbs and XL is 205lbs. When we looked at them it took both hands from my wife to lift the lid on the large :)

Do you just put the charcoal around the outside of that?
Yes....I cooked a turkey in it the other day. Wood chips (apple) on the bottom with a beer can in its butt and it came out so good..........only took an hour and half.

I'm not playing devil's advocate, just curious.
But how does it "Smoke six racks of ribs in 1 hour and 15 minutes, or a twenty pound turkey in 2 hours and 15 minutes."
Is the flavor, texture, and moisture the same as if you'd smoked those ribs for 3 or 4 hours?
What is the mechanism that allows such cooking?

It is honestly. I did ribs about 2 weeks ago. (still boiled them like I normally do first) and they were fall off the bone juice. The smoked flavor isn't as strong as a typical smoker when you cook fast, but I have let this thing go 2.5 hours and never burned anything. It gives you some room to play. If in a pinch, it can cook fast, if you have time, load up the bottom with smoke chips and smoke longer.

I've never boiled ribs and do ribs in about 4 hours with rub in my cabinet style smoker with great results -- fall off the bone good. The orion isn't something I'd put on my deck attached to my house though -- would never consider it.
Plus how would the Orion bake bread and pizza and cookies and sear steak at 700 degrees?

Yeah, I dont see any reason to boil them either. All you're doing is melting out fat that would have otherwise flavored the meat. I do a dry rub the day before and leave them in the fridge overnight. Take them out an hour or so before cooking and then throw them on the smoker at around 225 for about 4-5 hours. After smoking they go on the grill to crisp up and thats when they get a basting with my sauce.

Just had a thought.... thinking 140 frags sitting growing in the frag tank might have to get reduced to go towards my green egg I want. Probably means I should frag some acans as well then, dang... now I wish I was at home rather than at work.
