any height requirements for mh?

I wanted to use a retrofit kit and place it in my canopy. There is pleanty of room under the canopy, but when I have seen fellow reefers tanks who had similar set ups, their canopys seemed extra tall. Is this extra height required?
are there any concerns by having the lights only 6 or so inches from the tank?

MH really need to be at least 9" above the water IMO, if water splashes on the bulbs, very bad things can happen.

some bulbs like pendants dont have spash guards. So you would need a lot of extra room. If they do, just make sure it isnt heating up your water too much This is the main reason MH canopies are so high. Cause if they were right on the water even with a splash guard you would have a heck of a lot of evaporation and heating problems

I had mine at ten, was not getting very good color, so I moved it to 8 and all seems much better now.
