I'm also in the market for a new laptop - I too was looking at the ibook, but the really tiny one. I need uber-portability.
We were looking at the teeny Dell, also, but we heard HORRIBLE things about their customer service lately. As for compaq, I'll never touch another of their computers - I've had them since 2002 and they've been nothing but trouble. Thank G-d we bought the extended warantees, b/c they broke so often and so much that compaq had to keep sending me completely new computers....I've lost SO many files that way.
Anyone else with an ibook? How's the customer service? Waranty? Battery life? Are they really fragile?
Good thread idea Gebrony!! :joy:

If you are in the market for a lap top and your checking out the ibook and comparing it to other laptops you have overlooked the best feature of the ibook.
It's A MAC!!! comparing a mac to a pc is like comparing grapes to walnuts...yea they are both round.
I have been using macs for 4 years and I don't even like to be near any thing that runs on windows.
as far as customer service.. the salespeople in the apple stores are great, but if you order online you dont even need to worry about that.
Oh, by customer service you meant that number that you call when your computer breaks,
ok well as far as apple's customer service I woulden't be able to tell you because in four years of owning macs I have never had to call them. I am sure that if you did have an issue arise apple's customer service would be able to handle your problem quickly and efficently (I don't think they get many calls) as a matter of fact I have never had any problem with any of my macs besides some compatability issues in the past. However let me assure you compatability issues with macs are fast becoming a non issue.
now I am sure there are people that have had a mac break on them, but I haven't

my only prob with the ibook is that it only has a cd drive, but im thinking of just connecting an external dual layer burner via usb instead of messing with trying to locate a combo drive for it

has anyone ever replaced their optical drive in their ibook?
if so does the front bezel just snap on and off?
