Any Mantis Owners?

I am the proud new owner of a 4 inch Peacock Mantis Shrimp. I have him setup in in an acrylic tank by himself with livesand and liverock in which he burrows. I would love to hear some advice and tricks of the trade from you fellow mantis owners. For instance, do you feed live critters? silversides? small misbehaved toddlers? how often?
Also, I read that they are sensitive to changes in salinity. Is this true?

congrats! they are great creatures. i feed mine frozen silversides, frozen shrimp, clams (live from grocery store). also i have axcess to the marsh so i get him some live snails and fidler crabs that i just throw in the tank for him to eat for a snack. i feed mine in the evenings every day a small chunk of one of the above, if he's not hungry he throws it back at me.
they are sensative to salinity changes just make sure you let the water airate well before you add it for a water change.

i forgot mine is constantly rebuilding his cave. my peacock is about 6.5 inches, in a 15 gal.. and yes he hit the glass when hunting and took out a super small chunk of glass.

Thats awesome JOP. I picked up some silversides last night as well as a little treat to watch him destroy. I live about 5 minutes from the water, so I think I will go turn some rocks and see what I find!!

Yes VERY sensitive to salinity changes, it can kill them if you're too careless about it. I've read that giving them shrimp is probably the best, but you should feed them live crabs/shrimp every so often. I fed my mantis live just to watch him hunt. Goodluck and congrats! Also how large is the tank? Check out this site for great information on many mantis shrimps for the aquarium! http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/arthrop...me=o_scyllarus
