i saw one today and thoughtthey looked wonderful.
the LFS guy told me to purchase with caution because they can release toxins if they die, and if they are nipped at by fish as a defence mechanism.
$29 each. it looked like a bright rainbow, and i was genuinely impressed with the odd looks.

sea apples are a tough one to keep, being obligate filterfeeders with large mass they tend to slowly starve in the average setup and can be quite toxic when they die. its nice that the clerk advised caution. I would not risk putting one in a regular reef just too much money in corals and fish to lose.
I would consider putting one in a gorgonian/filterfeeder tank with a phyto drip setup. but thats species specific.

I just talk to a lady this week that had nice coral had a few nice fish had some nice inverts in a 180gal tank. I keep saying had because her sea apple was sucked into her over flow died and nuked her whole system. She had to start all over again. I'm also glad to hear your LFS gave you a heads up about the danger of having a sea apple.
