so did you suction cup it the far back wall then as high as it could? thats how i did it and the bubbles are not really in the reaction chamber. so i turned it down as much as possable.
aslo you said the skimmer is junk or the most part then correct?

Well basically it sucks in water, and the bacteria stick to the bubbles which float to the cup.

I've got the biocube 29 also. Only had it about a month. I also purchased the biocube skimmer.
The instructions do suck. I talked to the people at my lfs and they said to take the filter out and hang the unit on the plastic divider between chamber 1 and 2. And to take the filter and lay it above the bioball cover so that the water flows over the filter material. I plan on getting other filter media to do the job once I use up the filters I bought with the cube. I also am able to fit my heater in the same chamber as the skimmer.
I set up the skimmer when I added my live rock and it's worked like a charm. I had to adjust it a couple of times to get it set right. Take the top collection chamber off and turn up the airflow. You want the bubbles to just start to get to the top of the tube. They may not even break over the edge, but once it has run for awhile with the collection chamber attached, you will get an accumulation of gunk. If you have RO water and salt only in the tank, it will not work as well. Nothing to cook out.
I realize that this is not by a long shot the best skimmer around, but it fits my tank and it works just fine for me. You just have to change the airstone monthly.

I am still wandering what that piece of junk is supposed to do. All it ever did in my 14g bio was block the inlet flow.
Tunze 9002 for your tank. I'm running one on my 30g finnex and it's an awesome little skimmer and worth every penny. Of course you may have to modify your hood.

If your talking about the one made by Oceanic, I have one in the 14 I just set up and other than the fact that I have no idea what the clear in-line thingie was supposed to do (I left it out) mine works pretty well!
As far as installation goes I started with the suction cups but then read the inx, They are only needed for non-Biocube installations. There's a slot in the common wall between the place where you used to have the filter pad and the inner chamber. The skimmer fits there just fine.
I may have the bubble flow set a little too low, but my goal was to fill the cup every 48 hours (I don't usually work on weekends). Don't try to compare this to the 700 gph skimmer you may have on your main tank, but mine succeeded in taking my nitrates from 30 to 10 in 48 hrs.

I'll take a picture of it in place Monday.

best thing you can do for the biocube skimmer is modding it...
get a better airpump like some sort of big Hagen or equivalent and run two of the stock airstones off it. Also get a Lee's gravel vac (I think the medium size) and then take the vac tube and replace the stock reaction chamber tube with this new one as its much taller than stock. This mod only really works in a biocube 29 or non biocube app though since its so tall it won't fit under the stock hood on a biocube14. This did get much better than stock results for me though and skimmed much drier than stock. The only downside is that I strongly recommend that you replace both of the airstones monthly. Best of luck!
