I dont know much about Tortoise or Turtles.
But the state of Florida has just classified red-eared sliders as a "conditional species" and has banned the sale of them as pets. Maybe some of you turtle people might find that intresting.

Are red ear sliders not native to Florida? They are everywear here.

According to the second link, there not native to Texas either, perhaps because of people releaseing them also.....but, IDK myself. Sorry bout the hijack.

YOu find them everywhere here - both wild - and in markets where they have some sort of bogus "can't sell them as pets" type signs and a wink/nod later...people are walking around with them.
I cared for some Russian Tortoise when I worked at an aquarium. Pretty cool little beasties, though I favored the blue tongue skink

we have the same thing...or at least one pet store was selling map turtles that they could not sell as pets...well...they would, but you had to sign a waiver forum saying it was for some educational purchase of some sort.
